“I’ve lost 11 pounds, which isn’t far from my goal!”

” I went along to the first meeting of Ditch The Diet, not sure what to expect.  I can truly say it’s been very educational.

I’m not one for faddy diets, I believe that all food in moderation is best.  Unfortunately, my problem is portion control, but I’ve learnt about the foods which keep you feeling full for longer, and over the weeks, I’ve reduced my portions, as I’m not hungry, and I no longer have the urge to snack.  I’ve also learnt to shop for, and try different foods.  I’m eating far more fruit and vegetables, and I’m cooking more meals from scratch.

I’ve lost 11 pounds, which isn’t far from my goal, and I feel I’ve changed my eating habits with ease.  Another bonus I don’t have such a sweet tooth, which was bad previously.  At a recent check up with my gp he said blood pressure is the best it has been since 2008.

Heather is an excellent, encouraging instructor, who makes the classes entertaining.  She’s very down to earth and has empathy for all the class.

“Without Colette & Ditch the Diet, I would not be the person I am today”

“I have always struggled with my weight. Coming from a family who are ultra fit and very food conscious I often felt as though I had failed them.
I hated my body, hated the thought of going out and getting dressed up, occasions were a nightmare, I couldn’t wait to get home and put on my comfy pyjamas. I was bored so is eat, my days were unpleasant and my comfort was to eat watching TV.

I wanted to change but it felt too hard, I was embarrassed, defensive and desperate.
I had trusted too many people in the past that didn’t have my best interests at heart and I felt exposed.
I had lost all understanding of food, what was right, what wasn’t and was thoroughly confused.

I saw Colette around the school that my children go to, I had watched her for a while. She seemed approachable, confident and kind. After a few chats I realised she wasn’t going to tell me where I was going wrong, where I had gone wrong or why my whole life around food was wrong.
Something told me that this was a different approach. That I would have an education. There was honesty from the get go, I wasn’t getting told off and there was no magic quick fix.
There was no pressure just kindness and I felt a genuine want to actually help me and see me succeed. All the other diet clubs I had attended (and there have been many) felt like a conveyor belt system, “get in, weigh, be praised, get told off, leave, eat pizza and chips, starve myself for the rest of the week”
I knew this couldn’t continue and I was being given a chance to learn why I continued on this cycle.

The first thing I was really surprised at was I wasn’t embarrassed into getting weighed in front of a crowed, next I was told I could actually eat pizza, cheese and chocolate if I want to” I didn’t have to starve myself, sin myself, point myself or justify myself. My measurements were taken (at my request) and that was it! I got to speak about my family, my job, my worries and what makes me happy.
I got to know others and their stories and then every week I had a really productive lesson on all sorts of contributing factors. Hormones, stress, mindset! Lots of reason why I had been making certain choices. At this point I had a light bulb ahha moment, “I wasn’t greedy and disgusting and stupid”.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed learning. The gut health weeks were a real Insight into why my body worked a certain way. Finally I was surprised at how I had begun to relax and view my day very very differently.

For a while I found the new ethos of “if you want it, have it” difficult.
I struggled with eating full fat. It took me a while to realise all the low fat, half fat, no fat had other ingredients that did not serve me. Having grown up on these products, it took me a while to understand I could make different choices. I found releasing all guilt difficult, but with the help and encouragement of Colette and the group, I soon realised I didn’t have to carry such baggage around with me all the time and I could jump off of the guilt train any time I liked. I found other people’s attitude difficult at times, they wanted to hear how I’d began losing weight and wasn’t satisfied with my answer. One lady actually asked what tablets I was taking to help me shift the weight!

I could talk about the level of support all day but to sum up, “without Colette cooper and Ditch the Diet, I would not be the person I am today”

Colette is patient, kind, understanding, so so knowledgable and desperately wants to see me and others succeed.
I could check in any time I felt I needed to, Colette sends friendly messages daily and emails, never talking about food, never pushing for information on what I’ve eaten, just a “hi, how are you doing?”
The private Facebook page is a lovely way to get ideas and ask for thoughts or to share what has been going on in my day.

There’s video clips on FB of situations you may find yourself in and how to over come them.
Most importantly though, there is compassion, I have finally found someone who understands, who wants to help and who actually has the knowledge and experience to do so. How lucky am I?

The future finally seems like a place I want to live in, not just exist through.
I want to go out. I can finally take my children swimming, to the fair and get on a ride with them without the panic of “will I fit in the seat”

“This is the first time in years I have lost weight!”

I have always been a large girl, I was always told that our family jeans are large. I met my husband 21 years ago we got engaged and I vowed I was not going to be a fat bride. My weight loses story begins.

I joined Weight Watchers! Through the stress of arranging a wedding I indeed lost the 34 pounds to get to the goal weight set. Within 6 months a stone was back on. Two children later and a lot of money spent going to weight loss groups I now have 6 stone to lose to be of a healthy weight.
I had seen Ditch the Diet on Facebook  and thought why on give that a go. By doing the little steps Ditch the Diet sets each week and listening to my body – it has changed me.  This is the first time in years I have lost weight! I know life will always throw up stresses, it’s the way I deal with them that counts.
So far I have also learned that pleasing everyone is not always the best answer for me and I need to stand up and be counted.
We have a few more weeks to go, I am excited to see where it takes us.
Heather (coach) has been and is great, she knows what she is talking about.
In the past I have been sent to the dietitian through my doctor because of my weight and she never went through half the information Ditch the Diet and Heather has.
Keep up the good work and hopefully the government will stop promoting slimming groups and endorse Ditch the Diet with leaders who know what they are speaking about.

“The course has set me up for life!”

I am currently attending Ditch the Diet with Heather in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

I am loving every minute of Ditch the Diet and have made some lovely new friends along the way!

After attending the likes of Slimming World and Weight Watchers in the past and being thoroughly depressed with the yo yo dieting cycle  Ditch the Diet is a revelation and I have never felt so happy in my own skin before.

The course has set me up for life and taught me to enjoy and live every minute to the full and not beat myself up after having the odd treat. No more counting syns or points and starving myself…yippee!

Not only has it changed my lifestyle but also that of my family.

I have two young daughters and I don’t want them to go through what I did and to look at their bodies the way I used to.

Can’t believe how much rubbish we used to eat that I thought was healthy!!

Since being a teenager I have  had problems with my sleep but now my sleep has vastly improved and that is down to following what I have learnt with Ditch the Diet.

Heather has been a brilliant support and not only have classes been educational but fun as well.

I honestly cannot recommend Ditch the Diet enough – thank you Heather & Ditch the Diet for showing me the way forward and empowering me and teaching me to love myself again.

I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and learned SO much it’s ridiculous. I’ve loved learning about whole foods and what they mean. I never realised how much rubbish I was eating when in actual fact I thought it was healthy!

I’ve changed my son’s diet completely with swapping food over to whole foods, changing his milk and those little things have helped SO much. He is now off his Movical for constipation – which was a big issue for him – he is now in no discomfort at all, it’s great! :)

An amazing course – I found it so interesting and the support you get on a personal level is superb! Thank you Kim xxx

“I’ve become a lot more positive and in control of my life.”

‘Firstly just thought I’d give you some background on me… I’m 27, suffered with anorexia aged 15-16 which then developed into bulimia in my early twenties and over the last years binge eating disorder. And I’ve had anxiety and depression to boot… So yeah pretty f**d up when it comes to food/mood.
I’m about halfway through the ditch the diet course and I’ve noticed some big changes in myself

CLICK TO READ HER FULL STORY

Firstly my overall mood is the best it’s been in years. I actually had a discussion with my counselor last week and realised that I’m no longer depressed! In Ditch the Diet you focus a lot on making all of your life a more positive place if that makes sense? It’s quite a holistic approach. I’ve become a lot more positive and in control of my life and it’s been great to be in a group of people supporting each other and able to speak freely.
My approach to food has also improved greatly, I can go for meals with friends and let people cook for me without having a meltdown, which hasn’t happened in years, and I’m fueling myself much better the majority of the time.
My weight hasn’t gone down yet… But it hasn’t gone up either. Like I said my bulimia morphed into binge eating disorder and I was having 6000 calorie binges pretty much every other day. This now only happens about once a week and I eat far better in between. This week we’re doing emotional eating in our meeting and I think that will be a big game changer for me.
Overall I’ve found it so helpful. Some ingrained rules and confusions I’ve had for years have begun to be changed

To fully understand my problems with my weight I have to go back to 2007, I lost my husband in very tragic circumstances and for first two weeks after probably didn’t eat much at all, I’ve always been underweight my whole life and after coping with funeral etc, couldn’t cope with cooking so started eating take aways and junk food.

Fast forward 2 years and my weight had gone to 11 stone but the funny thing was I was still a Size 10. In 2010 I took up running in an attempt to beat personal demons and control my weight… Fast forward four years and after several thousand had still not lost more than 1/2 stone.

I started experimenting with diets but have too much of a sweet tooth.

Fast forward again to this year and I discovered and signed up for Ditch The Diet online, which has literally been a life saver, I no longer obsess about what I eat as long as it’s healthy and naturally sourced, I’m back at the gym and loving life. I’ve not lost any weight but have shed several inches from my body and nearly 4% body fat – all thanks to Rachael Watson and DTD.

To anyone having doubts about signing up to online course just do it you’ll be glad you did, thanks Rachael for giving me my life back and finally shedding the diet mentality.

So, 7 weeks ago I began a journey and at the time I didn’t realise how significant it would be. I have tried pretty much every diet going and failed as you would expect from a fad diet. I was disgruntled and miserable, and I needed something new, exciting and positive. DTD is that very thing. Our mentor / class leader / nutcase (in the nicest possible way) is Rachael Watson and she helps make DTD the most fun you can have on a Monday night in a public place with a bunch of ladies (!). It’s inspirational, life changing and totes amazeballs!!

I have learned loads of fascinating stuff, and my life has changed immeasurably for the better. I suffer from fibromyalgia (a fatigue illness) and I have an intolerance to gluten / wheat. What I have learned about food has completely turned my eating habits on their head. And my stomach thanks DTD for that!

Another major benefit of the Monday fun class is the mindset part of the course. My brain had basically been flooded for nearly 20 years into thinking food was the enemy and I MUST count every tiny microscopic calorie entering my mouth. Carbs are bad, protein is good, red, green, points, checks, shakes, pills…. arrrrrghhhhhhh I was brainwashed and I was done. Probably part of my weight problem to be honest, but I want to eat, not swallow pills or slimy shakes full of feck knows what!! DTD is teaching me I can and I can love food again. And it’s teaching me to love me.

Positivity is another massive integral part of the structure, I’m quite a self-lambasting person, I’ll praise, encourage and congratulate others till the grass fed organic cows come home but when it comes to me….I can always do better in my opinion. But DTD is showing me that taking responsibility for my life is a good thing. If I have an off day so what? No one is perfect, how boring would that be!! I’m me, and I actually love that when people judge me it’s their problem, not mine. Just flip it round and think what makes them think / say / post what they do and try to be helpful / sympathetic / nice to them. I’m quite an easy target to be honest, bright blue hair, tattoos and sometimes quirky dress sense but I’m me. Anyhoo, I’m off topic but I just can’t state enough how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE DTD :-D

It’s opened up a whole new way of thinking and eating and most importantly – living. I can’t wait for the rest of the course!

“I am starting my weekend off on a massive high girls and thought I would share.

So was in town today and thought I’ll just have a wee look in the shops. Shopping has always been a nightmare for me, never finding anything that can fit me, and usually I couldn’t go to your typical shop such as River Island for example, and would typically have to find something “plus size”.  As a result I have hated shopping and would only go if I really really needed something!

Anyway, today I took a shot, and tried on a pair of jeans. I have not fitted into a pair of River Island jeans since I was 19/20 – they were really popular in my uni days and used to wear them everyday- so this was a huge deal. I am massively pleased to announce that not only did I get a pair to fit but their size 18 was too big. I actually couldn’t believe it!! I wanted to fling the changing room door open n hug someone but as I was on my own I came out and phoned Michael straight away and he was as ecstatic as I was.

I know this sounds dead stupid, but you have no idea how good it felt going into an ‘age appropriate’ shop for me and easily finding something to fit me. I think I used to be delusional. Thinking things would fit me when in reality I hadn’t faced facts that I was actually much bigger than I was and feeling totally miserable for it.

I am feeling super awesome and totally empowered to keep going on this amazing journey!!!! Thank you so so much for helping me turn my life around  I soooo needed this!”

I’m Maria and I joined Ditch the Diet on the 7th January. I have always been conscious of my weight and have tried numerous of the mainstream diets but found the same thing each time – I lose the weight and then I pile it back on. The main thing I have learnt from Ditch the Diet is that it is a lifestyle and not a diet and therefore simple and easy to maintain your weight loss.

Within my first 2 weeks of joining I lost a stone. Laura has taught me so much, most of which has blown me away. I feel so much more confident and educated when shopping in the supermarket as I now know what to look for in order to maintain my healthy lifestyle. I have learnt how sugar affects the body and what types of fat are good for you.

Attending Ditch the Diet has been an amazing experience and I have made lots of new friends. It is refreshing to look forward to attending the group on a Tuesday evening, rather than it feeling like a chore. Joining Ditch the Diet has been the best thing I have ever done, I am much happier, healthier and confident. I would like to thank Laura for helping me to achieve this and joining me on my journey; although I still have a long way to go I am excited to continue on my journey.

I just really wanted to share with you girls!

I missed the last 2 sessions of the ditch the diet group due to personal life changes.

However, whereas previously I would have used food for emotional support, I haven’t, even though the life changes are massive.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve had some Dark Chocolate but I’ve carried on this journey, without having to worry about food or feel it’s an added pressure.

Today I’ve put on a size 18 top and trousers and they’re hanging off me, I look like a potato!

I started this journey as a size 20 and felt so under pressure to be on a ‘diet’ and I found it mentally and emotionally tiring, having dieted for 12 years and continually weighing myself!

If it wasn’t for Ditch The Diet I reckon I would be a size 22 by now.

Today I fit into size 16s and have no idea how much I weigh!!!

Keep it up girls

P.S. I’m really grateful for you putting this program together, I can now just focus on moving forward and where I am headed.

I feel healthier, and happier than everashley

“I no longer wake up and want to stay in bed, I wake up and I am ready to go, I feel healthier, and happier than ever!

At the time I had done everything I believed to be correct; I counted calories, removed fat, ate wholegrain breads and pastas and low calorie options, I even tried diet pills.

I was willing to do what it took, anything – I joined a gym, done a hard hour of cardio 4 – 5 times per week – and still nothing.

2 years of work and I lost NO weight, I thought it was gonna be impossible to lose weight, to say I was fed up would have been and understatement.

Then In January 2013 I came across the Ditch The Diet e-book, and soon realised what I had been doing was completely wrong.

My God do companies, people, and organisations over complicate weight loss.

This was the beginning of something good; I could feel it.

A few weeks after reading the book the coach in my local area held a seminar, I had to get there to find out more information about the book.

WOW…

What an eye opener, that night truly changed my life, not only because of the great simple information that’s really all so obvious when you sit and think about it.

But, because at the end of the meeting it was announced there was to be a regular group meeting (I don’t want to say weight loss group, because it’s not) to follow on from the information shared in the book and the seminar.

Helping us learn the importance of food and why we need to nourish the body has been amazing and the results speak for themselves.

I have added two photos, the first is me at the beginning of the year and then now, (yes it’s me the tattoo is new!).

I no longer wake up and want to stay in bed, I wake up and I am ready to go, I feel healthier, and happier than ever!

The funny bit was, for the first time in years I actually never focused on my weight, but I have lost it all – – > well all the bits I need to admire myself in front of the mirror again : )

Ditch The Diet really has changed my life, it is…

It ended my yo-yo diet hell.

It educated me on the healthy changes I needed to make to if I wanted to feel great again.

It helped me do it so gradually I hardly even noticed the changes I was making.

It showed me how fun a healthy lifestyle can be.

I think, for me though, aside from the transformation of my life, the best thing about this group is the support from the lovely ladies – they are all amazing, including the coaches.

We are all there for the same thing, we all have bad days but you can be completely honest in the group without feeling judged and you know that you’re not alone.

There was a genuine buzz around the room when others were talking about their successes, everyone in the group wanted the person next to them to succeed as much as they wanted themselves to.

I just want to say a big thank you to all those that made this group possible and teaching me to feel AWESOME everyday!

No more silly diets for me. Thank you.

Ashleigh Pearce, Ipswich

Having just completed phase 1 of Ditch the Diet, it has been a journey of learning how to eat healthy and regaining energy levels.  No more feeling sleepy all day every day.  Even though I did not lose any weight until the last couple of weeks of this phase, I have stuck with it and am looking forward to entering the next phase knowing that the weight is starting to come off and will continue to lose the weight.  It may work straightaway for some but don’t give up if it doesn’t.  This diet is an education on how to change how you eat not an instant weight lose programme.  STICK WITH IT!

I started Ditch the Diet in January this year and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I have made.

Since joining I have noticed a massive difference in the way I look and feel! Ditch the Diet is a fantastic and easy lifestyle change. I no longer have to worry about counting calories or feeling hungry and the stress of constantly trying to lose weight and feeling miserable is now non-existent.

Not only have I lost weight, I have also noticed many health changes; my sleep has improved, I am less stressed and my skin, hair and nails have all improved in condition. Whilst on my journey I have discovered that I am gluten intolerant and with the help from my coach Laura I have now cut this out of my diet. I no longer feel lethargic or run down and I cannot remember the last time I had a migraine or felt bloated.

I feel AMAZING! I look forward to attending the group meetings every week, they are so motivating and refreshing and its great learning something new each time you go. You’re not put under pressure to weigh yourself or tell everyone how much weight you’ve lost or gained that week, which is such a relief.

Whilst being part of ditch the diet my coach Laura has taught me so much information about food and the effects it has on the body, sleep and how to decrease stress levels. I will now have this information with me for a lifetime, giving me the knowledge I need to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.”

I no longer crave the bad processed foods.

As I have said to you before I am 61 yrs old and I jog up stairs and I am hardly out of breath.

I believe doing Ditch the Diet has changed my life for the better in so many ways it has really made me think about everything I come across whether it is food or products that I use.

A true game changer!!

“The results for me; I have lost a stone and a whole dress size since January!! That is all while eating more food, than I ever have. Not only more food, but more delicious food! No more low fat, tiny meals! EVER!
My insomnia which I have suffered with for years, is none existent, Magnesium Oil has changed my life completely. So much so I think I should be on commission from the company with the amount of friends I have now using it! At one time two sleeping tablets and a bottle of red wine was my only remedy for 8 hours broken sleep. Now I average 8 hours of unbroken sleep most nights.”

I first met with Laura and was introduced to the DTD concept in January and since then, well, talk about changes.

Last year, I had discovered the gym and exercise and had lost a stone through sweat and tears. Coming into 2014 I had promised myself that it was now the time to couple this with a new healthier lifestyle and yet another diet. I had previously had some success with Slimming World and Atkins and it was a decision about which one to embark upon again. That was until, I was contacted through facebook by Laura about Ditch the Diet. In all honesty, I thought here we go again, yet another ‘group’ to join, but figured it was local and I was intrigued… The group was also next to a pub which I like and I had agreed to meet a friend for a drink afterwards as a reward for going and listening to how fat we all are and how we need to ‘eat less and move more’.

Admittedly, looking at Laura herself in some of her photos, she looked good and healthy and I wanted to look like that too.

At the first meeting, the thing which truly ‘inspired’ me (and god I hate cliché words like ‘inspired’ but it truly did), was the fact that within 3-6 months, I would know all I needed to know and I wouldn’t need to be weighed, I wouldn’t need to go to classes and I would understand about the impact certain foods had on my body! SOLD!!

I have to say, over the first couple of weeks I was dubious, I was still convinced that it was going to evolve into yet another diet that I couldn’t stick to, in fact, didn’t want to stick too and I would of give up! 8 weeks in and I am still going strong!

Since January, I have learnt (OK, I am still learning, but I am getting better) to cook, I have learnt about how different foods make me feel and impact on my body, the difference between good and bad fats, how amazing magnesium oil is (and mushy pea (magnesium) baths are) and that you don’t have to give up everything you love or enjoy in order to live a healthier and happier life.

The results for me; I have lost a stone and a whole dress size since January!!
Now I average 8 hours of unbroken sleep most nights.

The most important thing for me is I honestly believe with everything I have learnt this is something which is sustainable. I haven’t given up my life to try and be thin, I still drink wine when I want (which admittedly is A LOT), I still go out for dinner when I want and if I want to eat a whole tub of Ice Cream I still do. But for the main part, I am eating fresh, home cooked unprocessed food and looking forward to every meal! I have a more positive outlook on life and am in a pretty happy place (most of the time ) for me meeting Laura and DTD, well, it really has been a game changer!”

I joined the Ditch the Diet group in Hale three months ago and have I met some brilliant and inspiring girls and it’s made me realise I don’t have to struggle alone or feel embarrassed about my health.

Week by week we have made small changes, not always successfully straight away, but as the weeks pass old habits have slipped away. I understand so much more about how our bodies work – everything from food intolerance, the effects of stress to organising my kitchen!

Half way through I am healthier than I have ever been, and losing the side effects of poor health – bad sleep, low energy, bad skin and excess FAT!

The best part of this programme is our coach Laura, not only is she a great laugh, she understands where we are coming from and is living proof that you can love living your life (good nights out included!) and be fit, strong and healthy. She has supported me when I’ve felt low and given me a push when I needed focus and encouragement, she is the reason this hasn’t been just another ‘diet’.

I am on my way to my target weight; I have lost 9lb of fat, gained lean muscle and feel amazing.

I can’t wait for the next three months, thanks Laura!!
